SALT OR SUGAR?

Have you ever mistaken salt và sugar?


I would say that week of vegetable cookery in culinary foundation class was my most memorable week, and my lesson.


Vegetable cookery plays an important role in culinary. In the fact that through it, I have a chance to learn various cooking methods to veggies like blanching, glazing, roasting and sauteing.


On the other hand, I can manage my products that I wont be overcook after the blanching process to refresh vegetables.


I was so confident in myself on that day. Presented at 12.00pm, I was the first person in that lab. I set up my station, picked up ingredients, and helped professor in preparing ingredients for each station. Because I came very early, I had a lots of time to prepare. My goal cooked veggies perfectly, and presented on time as I planned.


I always reminded myself that black cup is salt, white cup is sugar. Unfortunately, I got mistakes, I took salt in my glazed carrots instead of sugar.


I cut my vegetables well, presented very nice. Blanched green beans had well-done, I was bright and crunchy. Roasted Root vegetable which was tender and golden brown. My swiss chard has lovely aroma of butter, firmly, and seasoning tasty. My dish made me feel very satisfied until I taste my glazed carrot.




Looking at my photos, glazed carrots still perfectly in our eyes. Warning! I could not have a bite even a very tiny piece. I tasted only 1 second, then got vomit. It was no longer glazzed carrots which had to be sweety, uniform, and soft. Meanwhile, This carrot made me feel I stayed between saltworks. No words can describe excepting too salty. Even you drank 1000ml water, you still felt salty in your mouth. At that time, I imaged salt everywhere including in my dream.

My professor said I almost killed him, but I am not.



It was such an terrible day, I could not remember whether I took sugar or salt.


On those next days, I drank water replacing eating anything because I was scared of tasting salt. My lesson ever, now whenever I seasoned for my food, I will taste seasonings first. I do not allow my goldfish memory to destroy my recipe anymore.


You should be careful like me, I will get memorable nightmares like me.
